Vanita Shakti Mahila Sangathan is a women-led organization dedicated to empowering socioeconomically and environmentally marginalized communities in the tribal district of Dahod, Gujarat, concentrating to the Dhanpur block. We focus on improving the lives of women by strengthening their voices and decision-making power at both the household and community levels. Through collective action and resilience-building, we work towards sustainable development and gender equity. Our Story
Vanita Mahila Sangathan, promoted by Utthan, is a women's collective focused on building local leadership and social capital for marginalized women in the tribal district of Dahod, Gujarat, India. Since our establishment, we have worked to advance gender justice and economic empowerment. We mobilize women around their rights, support survivors of gender-based violence, provide guidance on land rights, and promote gender sensitivity. By equipping women with livelihood skills and encouraging civic engagement, we enable them to take leadership roles in village development. Through collaboration with local governments, we enhance access to essential services and foster participatory governance.
Our Mission
To empower women and young girls by enhancing their agency, providing them with the perspectives, resources, and tools necessary to amplify their voices, gain access and control over productive resources, entitlements, and services, and take charge of their bodily autonomy.
Philosophy of change
Our philosophy of change centers on empowering women with knowledge and skills in socio-technical aspects, enabling them to engage confidently with various systems and address issues that affect their lives and communities. By fostering this empowerment, we believe women can become active agents of change, leading to more resilient and equitable communities.

This livelihood mission is in strong alignment with the Government of India’s ‘Skill India’ initiative. This initiative aims to skill underprivileged youth from urban slums in the 18-32 years age bracket and is operational through 81 centres across 18 cities in 16 states.
Your contribution will help support in:
- Providing training on computer application, digital marketing, patient care/bedside assistance, banking services, E-Logistics and supply chain management & business process outsourcing
- Training on soft skills for personality development
- Ensuring placements of all the trained beneficiaries
- Providing practical exposure through project counseling and employee engagement apart from the curriculum
- Use of modern and relevant means of training i.e. use of latest digital technology for sessions
We have trained over 65,000 youth & more than 45,000 of them have been placed in over 350 brands across India with your support!
- When Covid-19 struck the nation in 2020, it not only took away lives, but it also took away livelihoods, schooling and employment opportunities for millions of people.
- Data from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy indicates that over 10 million people lost their jobs just in the second wave of Covid-19.
- As many as 97% households have experienced a decline in income since the pandemic began last year.
- India is facing a dual challenge in the form of a large unemployed youth population and a desperate need for more Covid Warriors in the health sector. Similarly there was a rising need for a digitally savvy generation to help us cope with the ‘new normal’
